Dean McLachlan, a revered figure in the Australian music industry, has officially announced his retirement after an impressive 30-year tenure with Mushroom Group. Starting his journey in 1997 as promotions manager, he made significant contributions to iconic projects, including Kylie Minogue’s "Impossible Princess" and Hunters & Collectors’ "Juggernaut." Over the years, McLachlan has worn many hats, playing pivotal roles within Mushroom Music Publishing, Mushroom Pictures, and Liberation Music.
His dedication and leadership were particularly noted after he became the general manager of Bloodlines in 2017, a label co-founded by the late Michael Gudinski. Just two years later, he stepped up to become the managing director of Bloodlines. McLachlan’s departure marks the end of an era for Mushroom Group and underscores his deep impact on Australia’s vibrant music scene.
